How you came up with this fabulous idea ?

WonderMoms.ca – We are an on line social networking site that offers our members fabulous contest and giveaways. WonderMoms was created to have a positive upbeat site for Moms to learn from each other through our message board. We saw the need to grow beyond the message board and created our website WonderMoms.ca . We were ready to work hard from the ground up and now our very proud of the achievements.

What do you love about being an entrepreneur?   Don’t be shy – go ahead and tell us!

I control my own hours and love the flexibility. I am a very hard working and seldom take time off. I do try and balance work, family and life – not sure if I balance it 100% but I really do try. I involve my children in my work, as they do go to a lot of events with me and get to meet and have fabulous opportunities.

What fantastic services do you offer moms?

At WonderMoms.ca we are always looking for new contest and keeping our site fresh, we offer fabulous contest and giveaways to our members. We love working with companies that have great products that we showcase . Yummy Gummy Vitamins

As moms we worry about whether our kids are getting enough vitamins and nutrients in their diet.  They sometimes eat proper balanced meals and other times, they are picky eaters who go on short spurts of hunger strikes.  That’s why we feel it’s so important for them take a multi-vitamin.  The problem we faced was that our kids hated the chalky flavour of the vitamins we were giving them.  I mean really, we remember taking multi-vitamins as kids and not enjoying it at all. However, just recently we both tried out Iron Kids Gummieswith our kidlets – and what did we find ~ Our kids are asking us daily for their cute fish-shaped vitamin gummies that come in awesome flavours like tropical fruit.  It’s like giving our kids candy – minus the sugar and artificial ingredients!

We love this husband and wife team because they are building a business that affords them time with their children and each other; plus they are dedicated to creating nutritional products for our little ones.

What is your Business name & how you came up with this fabulous idea ?

The company name is Life Science Nutritionals and the main brand right now is IronKids – a line of children’s Gummy vitamins.  My husband is the creator of this company ~ Stuart Lowther~

He named his company Life Science Nutritionals because his long term vision is to provide everyone with healthy products they can trust and feel good giving themselves and their families.  He started the company because he is passionate about human health.  The first products developed are for children because of the growing concern of obesity and lack of nutrition is today’s children.  Most large company’s use inferior ingredients with limited nutritional value.  Life Science Nutritionals puts the consumers health before profit and uses only natural ingredients.  There was a need in the market place for vitamins without artificial flavours, colours and chemical preservatives.

IronKids is the first brand to put Omega 3’s in a gummy – this makes it easier (and more fun) for kids to take their fish oils that they really need.

Stuart is busy expanding his brand lines to include healthy beverage and snack products for children and a whole division of adult gummy vitamins.

 For my husband, starting his own company meant he could develop the products he has always wanted to and could make an impact on people’s healthy.  It also meant at first he could work at home, then as the company grew, he could find office and warehouse space close to home.  No longer did he have to do the 3 hour daily commute to and from Toronto!  He is home anytime we want him home, takes kids to school, home for dinner every night. For me, working with my husband in this new capacity as Director of Web Social Media, I get to met so many amazing women, moms, entrepreneurs and friends.  I have recently quit my full time job to work with my husband full time and connect with more moms.  It is my passion to get the word out – our children can have great tasting vitamins that are not full of ‘candy’ fillers.  IronKids is an awesome brand and I love being the Mom behind it.  I can be home for my kids and I can talk to other moms about how important our kids health is.  We have 3 daughters, age 4, 6, and 8, they are our testers and our proof that IronKids Gummies taste great.  Our kids are the ones who asked Daddy to make the Vitamin D gummies into sunshine shapes – so he did!  This company is a family affair !!!  And we all love being a part of it.

IronKids are currently available in Multi, Omega 3’s, Calcium and Vitamin D.  The next product currently in production is a Vitamin C gummy, just in time for winter cold  & flu season!  IronKids can be purchased in Canada at Rexall PharmPlus, Loblaws, Fortinos, Costco (Omega’s only for now), Shoppers, Drug Mart, London Drugs, Sobeys, Metro, Lawtons, Jean Coutu (Quebec) and independent health food stores nationwide.  Online at Well.ca, Target.com, Walgreens.com, and Amazon.com and in the US at Rite-Aid, GNC and Fred Myer stores.

I Have been working in the Spa Industry for over 10  years and always wanted to open up a spa with a unique twist.  When I was pregnant the idea came to me a Spa with childcare.  My daughter is my biggest inspiration and continues to be so.

I love the fact that I can work on and learn all areas of the business.  I really enjoy the creative outlet I have working with Sunny Mummy.  Being able to spend quality time with my daughter.  Being able to bring my daughter to work whenever I want to. Being my own boss.  Being a great boss and creating a wonderful environment for people to work at.  Helping my clients out in any way I can.

We have great services.  We are Spa and we offer Massages, pedicures, manicures, reflexology, baby and children’s massages, reiki, waxing etc. and a major Plus,  Childcare 

WE also offer some unique products for moms and kids made by local moms who we like and want to support as much as we can.

We watch the kids while they get a service value added.  We also have an environment that is baby child friendly.  A place where moms can come in hang out have a service and relax knowing that anything they need or want is at arms length.

How we got started…….

On a chilly March evening I met up with a group at a Toronto pub to celebrate my good friend Natalie Alexander’s return to Canada after a stint back home in her native England. Natalie and I met working in the design studio for Canada’s largest book retailer and we had always had a mutual respect for each other’s work and design aesthetic.

Natalie had recently married her strapping Canadian man and was in the process of immigrating to Canada and sorting all of the necessary papers to legally work here again. I was on maternity leave after the birth of my second child. Over cocktails Natalie and I decided that this was the perfect time for us to think about starting up something of our own and, in the subsequent months, Meringue Inc. was born. A photographer friend of ours was there that evening and was filming the welcome home party. He created a really cool short film of us all and Natalie and I can be seen chatting excitedly and whispering in each other’s ears at the busy pub, cooking up Meringue.

The most rewarding thing about being an entrepreneur is the example that I am setting for my children. I love that they are growing up watching me follow my dreams, face my fears and “go for it”. Every day they watch me use my talents, love my job, sacrifice and work hard. My 5 year old daughter loves to “help” me. She comes with me to the paper warehouse, to visit the bank manager, to the post office. She sits with me and we create art together. Already she wants to be an artist when she grows up and work with her Mama. I love how proud she is of me and that she feels involved in my work. I want my children to use their talents and follow their dreams, no matter what stage of life they are at. I hope that the example I am setting is teaching them that hard work and a little faith in yourself goes a long, long way in this world.

After spending an amazing year on maternity leave with my son, I wanted to find a way to let other new moms know about all of the incredible mom and baby programs our city has to offer.  I know that as a new mom, your time and budget are often limited and it can be overwhelming to figure out which activities will work best for you and your little one.  I decided to create a program that allowed moms and babies to experience all kinds of activities in one location at a reasonable price, in order to find the programs that best suited their interests!   

Mommy Connections allows moms to learn about important things like infant CPR, proper nutrition while nursing and financial tips for young families.  It also provides a fun opportunity to bond with your baby through activities like infant sign language, yoga, music and dance.
I believe that it’s critical for the physical and emotional health of a new mom to make sure she gets out and connects with other moms, to share stories, solicit advice and laugh.

As a social person by nature, I never pictured myself being an entrepreneur because I thought that the definition of entrepreneur meant working on your own.  What I’ve discovered by partnering with other mom-run businesses like Diaper-eez and Sunny Mummy Spa,  is that the community of “mompreneurs” is more supportive, collaborative and inspiring than any corporate team I’ve been a part of.  I love feeling passionate about what I’m selling, and realizing how infectious my enthusiasm can be.  I no longer have to sell my ideas up the corporate ladder and it’s a huge bonus that I can finalize business deals while still in my pyjamas!

 Mommy Connections is a Post-Natal Program & New Moms Social Network.  This amazing 6 week program features expert presenters who will enlighten, support and educate new moms – as well as give them a place to go and socialize.   Topics include fitness, nutrition, safety, infant communication, and more!  Classes start September 21st at Swansea Town Hall and cost only $60 for 6 weeks!  Session 2 begins November 2nd.

How you came up with this fabulous idea?

We love our products and so do our kids!  We try to turn sensible, everyday items that kids use into cute items kids will want to use and won’t want to lose!  What we produce are things we want our kids to have but that we couldn’t find locally.  We’re proud to be Canadian and love to support local Moms in business.

First and foremost we love the flexibility that being (Mom) entrepreneurs gives us. Having come from professional out of the home jobs we love that we can walk the kids to school, work while they are there, pick them up and host play dates. Sure, it means that we pretty much always work late into the night after the kids have gone to bed and in our pj’s on weekend mornings but our kids see that we are working hard to build a business that will allow us to contribute to our families while valuing the time we can devote to them.  Someday we hope to keep ‘business hours’ but for now we are pretty focused on the business all the time  We’re just coming out of our amazing first year in business together and we’re so proud that we’ve come as far as we have.  This year we’ve met so many amazing (Mom) entrepreneurs who inspire us and are so grateful for the peer community we have established and for our awesome loyal customer base.

We love Kathy and Kim.  They are two mom-preneurs who left the corporate world and came up with Kathy & Kim Originals – personalized products for your funky kidlets!  Your kids will be back-to-school cool with backpacks, water bottles, hoodies, tees and more, all featuring a cute personal icon on the front.  Each piece is customizable from a huge selection of options, making it “super fun” (direct quote from our kids) for them to create their own character that reflects a unique image of themselves.  Totally adorable!

The backpacks are made out of recycled materials (eco point for that!), and have reinforced seams, front zip and side velcro pockets, and enough room to stash school books, extra clothes and your kidlets’ Kathy & Kim Originals lunch bag.  The only thing that’s missing is a padded back, but not a huge deal for primary-aged school kids who aren’t carrying heavy textbooks yet.  The lunch tote is a thermo bag – keeping all that good stuff nice and warm or nice and cool, for when the lunch bell rings.  It’s roomy.  Like really roomy – I packed it with my husband’s man-sized lunch container, and there was still room for tons of stuff. I tried to fit the 500ml water bottle upright in the lunch tote, but it has to go in on its side.  The aluminum water bottle is light weight and features two easy-for-kids-to-open lids (thumbs up for that!), one of which has a carbiner for easy attachment to the funky backpack!
